Definitions

Double Track NWI - The South Shore Line will expand the from single track to double track between Gary and Michigan City and construct, signal, power, and platform improvements at five passenger stations. For more information, visit: https://www.doubletrack-nwi.com.

Transit Development District (TDD) - Regional TIF districts focused on transit-oriented development. TDDs collect income tax revenue along with property tax revenue used for investment. It’s important to note that local community retains land use and zoning control and revenue collected from the district is spent in the district.

Tax Increment Financing (TIF) - A public financing method that is used as a subsidy for redevelopment, infrastructure, and other community-improvement projects.

Transit Oriented Development (TOD) - TOD is walkable development, within walking distance of public transport, that maximizes the amount of residential, businesses and open space.

South Shore Line (SSL) - The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana. West Lake Corridor (WL) - The West Lake Corridor Project is a southern branch extension of the existing South Shore Line which reaches high-growth areas in Lake County, Indiana. The West Lake Corridor Project is being designed with a focus on sustainability and wetland mitigation, incorporating best practices to protect the environment.
